Industrialization and Progressivism (1877-1920)
Ignited by post-Civil War demand and fueled by technological advancements, large-scale industrialization began in the United States during the late 1800s. Growing industries enticed foreign immigration, fostered urbanization, gave rise to the American labor movement and developed the infrastructure that facilitated the settling of the West. A period of progressive reform emerged in response to political corruption and practices of big business.

Professor Ed O'Donnell, Holy Cross College
Dr. Edward T. O’Donnell is a professional historian, author, and speaker. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA and his Ph.D. in American History from Columbia University. He is an Associate Professor of History at Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA. O’Donnell is the author of several books, including: Visions of America: A History of the United States (co-author, Pearson, 1st ed. 2009, 2nd ed. 2012) and Ship Ablaze: The Tragedy of the Steamboat General Slocum (Random House/Broadway Books, May 2003).

Professor Steven Conn, Miami University
Steven Conn is the author of 5 books, most recently Do Museums Still Need Objects? He specializes in 19th and 20th century cultural and intellectual history. He received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1994 after graduating from Yale University in 1987.

Professor Donna DeBlasio, Youngstown State University
Donna DeBlasio holds a B.A. and M.A. in History from Youngstown State University, and a Ph.D. in History from Kent State University. Her current research focuses on company housing in Youngstown and working class leisure in Youngstown in early 20th Century. She teaches courses on historic preservation, oral history, and late 19th-20th Century US History. Dr. DeBlasio is professor of History and Director of Center for Applied History at Youngstown State.

Professor Mark Tebeau, Arizona State University
Mark Tebeau is associate professor of history professor at Arizona State University. As a digital humanist, Tebeau writes about how urban memorials and public art reveal the changing nature of cities and community identity in the twentieth century; the Cleveland Cultural Gardens provides a lens for this project.
